Foreign nationals need to get permission in order to transit through Canada. Visa-exempt foreign nationals are expected to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Border services officers can let travelers into the country, as long as they meet basic requirements, such as:
- Have a valid travel document
- Be in good health
- Have no criminal or immigration-related convictions
- Convince an immigration officer that they have strong ties such as a job, home, financial assets or family that will take them back to their home country
- Convince an immigration officer that they will leave Canada at the end of their visit
- Have enough money for your stay
