YUKON NOMINEE PROGRAM

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is run by the Yukon Government in partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada under the “Agreement for Canada-Yukon Cooperation on Immigration.” This partnership allows Yukon to nominate applicants who qualify to the federal government for permanent residency.

The YNP streams for Skilled Workers and Critical Impact Workers is locally driven and based on the needs of Yukon employers. When eligible Yukon employers cannot find Canadian citizens or permanent residents to fill permanent full-time jobs, they can find workers from outside of Canada. We select internationally trained and experienced foreign workers who have the skills needed in the local labor market, and nominate them to receive Canadian permanent resident visas to settle and work in Yukon.

1. YNP - SKILLED WORKER

The Skilled Worker Program is for qualified workers who fit into National Occupational Classification (NOC) 0, A or B categories. The YNP stream for Skilled Workers is locally driven and based on the needs of Yukon employers. When eligible Yukon employers cannot find Canadian citizens or permanent residents to fill permanent full-time jobs, they can find workers from outside of Canada. The province of Yukon selects internationally trained and experienced foreign workers who have the skills needed in the local Labor market, and nominates them to receive Canadian permanent resident visas to settle and work in Yukon.

To qualify for Yukon’s Skilled Worker Steam, an applicant must:

  • Have education and work experience that satisfy the job in the NOC
  • Proof of education/credentials
  • At least one year of related work experience
  • Provide valid results from a language test administered by a designated testing agency
  • Maintain a valid work permit throughout the YNP application and assessment process

2. YNP - CRITICAL IMPACT WORKER

The Critical Impact Worker Program is for qualified workers who fit into National Occupational Classification (NOC) C or D categories. The YNP stream for Critical Impact Workers is locally driven and based on the needs of Yukon employers. When eligible Yukon employers cannot find Canadian citizens or permanent residents to fill permanent full-time jobs, they can find workers from outside of Canada. The province of Yukon selects internationally trained and experienced foreign workers who have the skills needed in the local Labour market, and nominates them to receive Canadian permanent resident visas to settle and work in Yukon.

To qualify for Yukon’s Critical Impact Worker Steam, an applicant must:

  • Have education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job in the NOC
  • Proof of education/credentials
  • At least six months of related work experience
  • Provide valid original test results from a language test administered by a designated testing agency
  • Maintain a valid work permit throughout the YNP application and assessment process

3. YNP - EXPRESS ENTRY PROGRAM

Express Entry is a new online application system being used by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Express Entry is not a new program but rather a new way of managing the intake and processing of applications.

Yukon added an Express Entry Stream to its existing immigration programs in March 2015. Employers who use the Express Entry Stream of the Yukon Nominee Program do not have obtain Labor market impact assessments or pay for the foreign worker’s travel costs.

To qualify for Yukon’s Express Entry Stream, an applicant must:

  • Have a valid job offer for full-time,
  • Have a permanent work from an eligible Yukon employer, and
  • Meet the requirements of one of the three eligible federal economic immigration programs:
    1. Federal Skilled Worker Program
    2. Federal Skilled Trades Program
    3. Canadian Experience Class
